Environment, Health & Safety

Care for the Environment is one of our core corporate values. We provide for the creation of a safe and healthy workplace and a clean environment for employees and the community and aim for the highest international standards in plant design, equipment selection, maintenance and operations. We are committed to manufacture products safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.

Besides laying down guidelines on systems, policy and training, EHS performance is periodically reviewed at facility and corporate levels to monitor the progress against EHS improvement plans. Close cooperation between all departments and individuals is key to maintaining high standards of environment protection and safety at all the facilities.

The key processes comprise regular safety surveillance, inspections and internal audits; permit to work system for operational/maintenance safety; fire prevention and protection activities; operation of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP); and regular monitoring of the environment. Necessary training is imparted to employees to enhance their awareness in health and safety related matters.

Investments have been made in process improvements of effluent treatment plants, using membrane based technologies, multi-effect thermal evaporators and agitated thin film dryers. These measures have helped to reduce the environmental burden. With these equipments installed at our facilities for recycling of the treated effluent, we have achieved the status of “zero liquid discharge”.

At CWPL, we are fully committed to achieving EHS excellence and conduct our activities in the most responsible manner. The importance of EHS is continually stressed and extensively promoted as a corporate culture within the organisation. It is also clearly reflected and well defined in our value statements about “Managing our operations with high concern for safety and environment” and being “a responsible corporate citizen”.

Integral to our EHS philosophy is the commitment to thinking and working responsibly so that the employees, the community at large and the environment, including natural resources, are protected, leaving minimal environmental footprints. On the road to EHS excellence, we have adopted a top down approach and embraced the principles and codes of best practices in our EHS Management System.

Our inherent belief that all workplace illnesses and injuries are preventable has been the key driver of our determination to keep our manufacturing facilities and offices safe. We take numerous initiatives to enhance workplace safety including extensive safety training programmes, both by internal as well as external specialists, on a regular basis. Our abiding concern for society extends beyond our business.
